Welcome to Janet's Place!

I'm so glad that you've stopped by my place! I wanted you to get to know me better as I share my favorite things with you. I would love to get to know you too, so please send me an e-mail before you leave our site!

I am 36 years old and am the mother of 3 daughters, ranging in age from 10-15 years old. I am a single mother, working from home (as a website designer), trying to keep my priorities on my children. I don't feel there is any job more important than being a mom, and I believe with all my heart that being a homemaker (a keeper of the home) is God's plan for women. Titus 2:3-5 says, "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." I'm so honored to be a mother and homemaker, and am so thankful that God has made it possible for me, even though I'm a single mother!

I have always homeschooled my children, and will continue to do so, by God's grace and according to His leading. Although homeschooling is not for everyone, I chose homeschooling so my girls could have a Christian education and a close family unit. The MOST important thing of all is their relationship with the Lord and the character that they develop. It is truly an honor and a blessing to be a homeschool teacher. The most important thing in my life is my Lord Jesus Christ. I became a Christian when I accepted Him as my Savior and Lord at age 6 1/2. I know I do not always please Him, but it is something that I am always striving for. With all my heart, I want to be the Proverbs 31/Titus 2 lady that God wants me to be.

As I'm sure you are already well aware of, I love Raggedy Ann and Andy things! I have not been collecting them as avidly as I have been in the past, but I've been very pleased to see all the new things coming out the last few years. My girls love Ann just as much as I do, and I've given them some of my dolls. I think Ann is such a wholesome doll for girls to play with!! The books are very wholesome as well. If you'd like, please take a tour of my Raggedy pages by clicking here.:)

As for other things I love....I love old-fashioned things. My dream is to one day have an old-fashioned cook stove and a claw foot tub.:) Although I cannot imagine living without washing machines and computers, I do love to do things as old-fashioned as possible. I love cooking from scratch (it's so much better for you!), and I bake bread and other goodies frequently. I would love to be able to quilt one day. I just love homes decorated with quilts and lots of doilies!

I've always been very intrigued by the Amish, but even more so since reading some of Beverly Lewis' books. It would be a wonderful dream come true to actually be able to visit Amish country one day! I also love other historical Christian romances, like Lori Wick and Janette Oke novels. Janette's Song of Acadia series are the most heart-wrenching books I've read in a long time! After I read each book, I could not wait for the sequel to be released!

I love old-fashioned TV shows like Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons. I used to think I wanted to live in the 1800's, but since having children, I've changed my mind! I'm especially thankful for the great medical facilities that we have today. (Without a C-section, one of my daughters, and quite possibly I as well, would have died or have been severely injured.) That said, I still absolutely love fitting old-fashioned things into my life any way I can.:)

I have many interests and hobbies. I love to be online and make websites, of course, but I also love to read, as noted before. Besides Christian historical romances, I love reading good books on Christian parenting, homeschooling, homemaking and historical fiction. I also enjoy sewing, cross-stitching, and scrapbooking, when I find the time. It is really hard for me to find the time lately. I enjoy playing the piano and gardening. I love working in the yard, no matter if it's push-mowing or cutting down things!

I love to visit old museums and plantations. I am especially fascinated with Victorian times and ways of doing things. I love history, and have always been very fascinated with the Civil War, the Titanic, and the Holocaust. The Hiding Place is a beloved book to me about the faith of a Christian family as they helped hide the Jewish people during Hitler's terror. My faith was so strengthened as I read of the Ten Boom's simple faith in God, even in the midst of the Holocaust. I'll never forget the impact this book has had on my life. I really enjoy watching The History Channel on a variety of subjects!

I really believe in a simple life, rejecting our fast-paced, modern way of living. Although there are so many wonderful activities one can be a part of, I truly believe it causes families to fall apart from so much busyness, and it makes families miss the BEST. We need to be careful of giving up the BEST things for the "good" things. Here is a wonderful article that expresses more eloquently what I'm trying to say.:)
Satan's Convention

This can include church activities as well. Many well-meaning men and women put ministry ahead of their own families, and the spouses and children are neglected. This is so very, very wrong. Our families ought to be the most important people on earth. THEY are our ministry! Please read this wonderful article for more:
A Family Well Loved

"I finally came to the point of deciding that my heart's desire was that at age sixty I will want to have given my life to my children. To know that I gave all I had. To have no regrets. To do the best that I could. I made a choice to invest myself in my home. Not to give lip service to it, but to dig in and really make a difference. Not to just mark off time, but to do it well, to give of myself. I am being called to be a missionary. Not to Africa, but 'to my own people.' To my little ones. To my family."
