Some time back, our pastor shared this song with us. May it be the prayer of every Christian.

Pear Preserves

This past Saturday I did something that I’ve been wanting to learn for so long- I put up my first preserves! My parent’s pear tree gives hundreds of pears, and because of the high prices of food, I wanted to get as many as I could from them to freeze and to home can. I posed many questions to a friend at church and my pastor’s wife, read a good bit at PickYourOwn’s website, watched Home Canning Basics video series on You Tube, and read the Ball Blue Book of Preserving, which came with the Ball Home Canning Kit. Then I jumped in! I was on my feet for hours, but felt so satisfied looking at my jars when I was done. I made pear preserves and pear honey. My daughters helped me out in various ways and sure learned a lot with me! They are eating up my pear preserves quicker than I anticipated, and I also have more pears to use up, so I’m going to have to do some more canning later on this week, Lord willing.

I love learning new things to become a better homemaker and to further our dollars. I am so thankful that the Lord has allowed me to learn so much and to learn more and more all the time. He has been exceedingly good and kind to me– to us. As a new customer shared with me today, “My work is my worship.” How I long for this to be wholly true in my own life!

Impatiens

“It takes two to make a marriage, but individually each can do so much to keep it filled with love and peace. Two who have come from different backgrounds, perhaps even lived in worlds apart, become as one. It takes a melting down of wills, a cheerful willingness to go a little more than halfway both in giving in and in planning for the future. The key of diplomacy is very useful in married life. If handled carefully, it will fit the lock of any door that has been bolted shut.”

~~~***~~~
“It seems strange to me that marriage is the one position we can take without previous training or preparation. It is the highest and most important job one can hold and yet people rush into it blindly. To know something about each other should be part of the training. How does a girl feel about being a wife? Does she enjoy cooking, cleaning, and keeping house? What kind of mother will she make? A man should want to know his sweetheart’s views on such things. And what kind of father will he be?”
~~~***~~~

“A wise woman will sit down and analyze the situation. Is this such a terrible thing her husband is doing? Why does it annoy her so much? Why not just let him be himself and read the paper to his heart’s content? He will love her even more for this freedom. When he is through reading, he will be his attentive, happy self again, perhaps even more so because there is no tension. This is just one of the many pet peeves that ruins so many homes in our day… it’s up to each wife to discover the source of any irritation that lets the little ‘fox’ slip into the home.”

~~~***~~~
“The way a marriage starts off is most important. If homes are solid, the nation is solid, and the nations form the whole world. So what we do in our individual home affects the whole world. (emphasis added)
This was my devotion the other morning. It blessed me tremendously. I find it very hard to wait at times and very easy to lose trust in my Lord, when I can’t see what He’s doing. May this bless you, too.
Delayed Blessings
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time…though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Hab. 2:3).
In the charming little booklet, Expectation Corner, Adam Slowman was led into the Lord’s treasure houses, and among many other wonders there revealed to him was the “Delayed Blessings Office,” where God kept certain things, prayed for, until the wise time came to send them.
It takes a long time for some pensioners to learn that delays are not denials. Ah, there are secrets of love and wisdom in the “Delayed Blessings Department,” which are little dreamt of! Men would pluck their mercies green when the Lord would have them ripe. “Therefore will the Lord WAIT, that He may be gracious unto you” (Isa. 30:18). He is watching in the hard places and will not allow one trial too many; He will let the dross be consumed, and then He will come gloriously to your help.
Do not grieve Him by doubting His love. Nay, lift up your head, and begin to praise Him even now for the deliverance which is on the way to you, and you will be abundantly rewarded for the delay which has tried your faith.
O Thou of little faith,
God hath not failed thee yet!
When all looks dark and gloomy,
Thou dost so soon forget—
Forget that He has led thee,
And gently cleared thy way;
On clouds has poured His sunshine,
And turned thy night to day.
And if He’s helped thee hitherto,
He will not fail thee now;
How it must wound His loving heart
To see thy anxious brow!
Oh! doubt not any longer,
To Him commit thy way,
Whom in the past thou trusted,
And is “just the same today.”
(You may read all of the Streams in the Desert devotions at this website, Streams in the Desert Devotionals. {The dates are different on this website than my dates are in my book.} The devotions listed on this site seem to have less of the updated language that I have seen on other websites. I prefer the older versions of the book. You may search Amazon.com for antique copies for very little money.)
