Pear Preserves

This past Saturday I did something that I’ve been wanting to learn for so long- I put up my first preserves! My parent’s pear tree gives hundreds of pears, and because of the high prices of food, I wanted to get as many as I could from them to freeze and to home can. I posed many questions to a friend at church and my pastor’s wife, read a good bit at PickYourOwn’s website, watched Home Canning Basics video series on You Tube, and read the Ball Blue Book of Preserving, which came with the Ball Home Canning Kit. Then I jumped in! I was on my feet for hours, but felt so satisfied looking at my jars when I was done. I made pear preserves and pear honey. My daughters helped me out in various ways and sure learned a lot with me! They are eating up my pear preserves quicker than I anticipated, and I also have more pears to use up, so I’m going to have to do some more canning later on this week, Lord willing.

I love learning new things to become a better homemaker and to further our dollars. I am so thankful that the Lord has allowed me to learn so much and to learn more and more all the time. He has been exceedingly good and kind to me– to us. As a new customer shared with me today, “My work is my worship.” How I long for this to be wholly true in my own life!
