Fourth of July Chair

“Wondrous Creator, bless our country– our America that gives to us so much to enjoy. Help us to be true to her and to honor and love her with all our hearts. Forbid that we should ever degrade her by word or deed. As we look at that Star-Spangled Banner waving in the blue, remind us that we belong together in good or bad, in peace or war. God grant us peace and brotherhood, and our leaders, wisdom. And my Thy blessing rest over our land. Give us understanding so that we may live each day to the fullest. In gratefulness we pray. Amen.”

“The love of country should come next to the love of God in a nation. We should never degrade our own land. We should never think the wrong way about it. Whatever the world says about us, we are a good nation and we have given to the world more than any other nation.”

—Thyra Ferré Bjorn, The Home Has a Heart

“Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has planted in us. Our defense is in the spirit which prized liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere.”

—Abraham Lincoln

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…”

Psalms 33:12a

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (emphasis mine)

Proverbs 14:34

May you all have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July. Praise God for a country where we are free to serve Jesus Christ!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. ~Psalms 19:14

This past Sunday our dear Miss Wilbur, also known as Miss Wheeks, passed away. Our hearts have been heavy, and we miss her immensely. My middle daughter was crushed, because Miss Wilbur was her little girl.

Wilbur had been ill with a skin infection, but had been getting better. We were shocked that she passed and don’t know what happened to her. The doctor assured us that it was not her skin condition.

Miss Wilbur

We miss hearing her wheek for her food at suppertime. She would go stand by her little door and wait on us, wheeking the whole while. We miss saving bits of fruit or veggies for her. We miss shopping in the produce section of the grocery store for her. We miss picking clover for her in the yard. We miss seeing her beautiful soft curls that she had on her rear and her neck. We miss putting her in her outside cage for playtime.

Miss Wheeks

She loved to go on wheelbarrow rides with her brother Autumn. The girls called him The King and her The Queen. (Autumn actually will get in and wait for his ride!) The girls would find all sorts of greens to give her, which she very much appreciated. They guarded his and her majesty from would-be kidnappers.

The children again asked me if our pets would be with us in Heaven. The Bible doesn’t tell us what happens to our pets when they die; however, I believe with all my heart that we will see them again, either in Heaven or on the new earth that He will someday create. I believe this because the Bible says that not one sparrow is forgotten before God (Luke 12:6) and because children are so very precious to Him. Wouldn’t it be just like our loving Heavenly Father to surprise us with a reunion with our beloved pets someday? Just as we love to surprise our children, can you imagine His anticipation of seeing the joy on our faces when we meet these dear family members again?

God, in His lovingkindness and perfect timing, sent over the neighbor’s dog to spend several days with us while his master was away. We think he got lonely and took up with us. What joy he has brought to the girls!

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Mark 8:38

Jesus Carrying the Cross

“Easter, the most joyful of all Christian feast days, follows that most sorrowful of days we remember. The joy of Easter proceeds from the Cross. Without Christ’s pouring out His soul to death there would have been no resurrection. We cannot know Christ and the power of His resurrection without also entering into the fellowship of His suffering.”
