Courageous: Honor Begins at Home

Have you seen the movie Courageous yet? If not, I urge you to see it today! Courageous is made by Sherwood Pictures, the same people who made Fireproof. I didn’t think they could outdo Fireproof, but they knocked it way out of the park! I have seen it 3 times already. I have bawled, laughed, and been encouraged and inspired. We sat with our pastor and his wife this week to see it again, and he is now recommending it to everyone. God is doing something awesome with this movie, and you don’t want to miss it!

I know firsthand how much the absence of fathers doing the right thing hurts children. As a single mother, I’ve seen the hurt of my children. Whether you are a father or not, there is someone in your life that needs you to be a man or woman of courage, to show them the way.

“If fathers just did what they’re supposed to do, half the junk we face on the streets wouldn’t exist” (Nathan Hayes, Sheriff’s Deputy in Courageous). The movie’s tagline is “Honor Begins at Home.” What men do in their homes affects our churches and our nation. When Christian men do not lead their children right, they are destroying generations to come and are causing the Word of God to be blasphemed.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss, from Revive Our Hearts, said on her Twitter page, “1st time I have publicly recommended a movie. Pls go see Courageous. Pray for a mighty moving of God among men/in homes.”

Family Life Today recently interviewed the Kendrick brothers in 3 different broadcasts. It is a blessing to hear how the Lord gave them the idea and all resources to make Courageous.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol

Disney's A Christmas Carol
Last Christmas, I got to see Disney’s A Christmas Carol at the theater in 3-D. It was just stunning to see on the big screen! I did not get a chance to take my girls before it left the theaters, but we got to watch it together this week. The girls and I just love it and highly recommend it! It will definitely be a part of our yearly Christmas must-watch-list. A Christmas Carol follows Dickens’ book more closely than any other movie ever has. The technical advances we now have allow the novel to be brought to life as Dickens intended. The visuals are stunning, the story is both funny and touching, and the soundtrack is beautiful! (We love movie soundtracks! It is like reliving the movie in a short space of time.)

Please note: I would not recommend allowing a younger child watching without a parent, because it could be very scary to them. You know your child best and what would be frightening for them.

The Waltons Seasons DVDs & Swagbucks

The Waltons - The Complete Third Season Amazon.com has nearly all their DVD seasons of The Waltons for only $12.49! This is half of what most stores carry them for. With gift cards I earned from Swagbucks and a little bit of cash, I was able to order seasons 4-6. I can’t wait for them to arrive in a few days! We are slowly building our DVD collections!

If you are not familiar with Swagbucks, you can use their website to do searches and be rewarded “Swagbucks”, which you can then turn around and use for prizes on their website. I like to use them for $5 Amazon gift cards. When I have enough gift cards, I cash them in for things that I want. I use Swagbucks for searches that I go to a few times a day, like when I visit Google Reader, Facebook, and news pages. I bookmark these search results and rename them so that I can easily use them every time I need them (Tip from Lizzie at A Dusty Frame). I don’t use SB for other searches, because I feel search results are better on Google. I have my children use Swagbucks for their frequently visited pages also. By searching, I usually earn 2-3 Swagbucks a day (you don’t win them for every search), although sometimes I can find codes on the SB Facebook, Twitter, or blog pages.

Fireproof on DVD

103339: Fireproof, Special Collector"s Edition DVDLast week we made a special trip into town to purchase the Fireproof DVD on the day it came out. We have been anticipating it for months, ever since we saw it in theaters. Back in the fall, my sweetheart had taken me to see it as a surprise, and I took my girls, my parents, and my parents’ neighbor a few days later. We were just blown away by the movie. It contains something for the whole family: action, romance, and comedy. It encouraged me greatly to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ presently so clearly on the “big screen.” We have watched it numerous times since purchasing the DVD.

Since watching the Left Behind series, my girls have been big “fans” of Kirk Cameron, who starred in Fireproof. They have loved the stories I’ve told them of how extremely popular Kirk was when I was a teen girl. My daughters are amazed at how God worked in his life and saved him. It still amazes me. I recently read Kirk’s autobiography Still Growing. I cannot tell you how much his testimony encourages me in my walk with the Lord. My middle daughter got to it and read it before I could.:) Now, my oldest is reading it, sometimes aloud to her baby sister.

Although I don’t normally listen to this style of music, this song has greatly encouraged all of us. It is called “While I’m Waiting” and was featured in Fireproof. I’ve done a great deal of waiting on the Lord in my life. He has always been working behind the scenes, as I was waiting. He does that for all of His children, no matter if we can see Him working or not. We can trust that He is getting everything lined in place for His perfect timing.

We loved the Fireproof in 60 video on the Fireproof website and also on the DVD. You can view it on the website; it is the second video. Hilarious!

We have seen all the movies made by Sherwood Baptist Church. We pray for God’s continued outpouring of blessings and protection on this humble church, who just want to honor God.
