For the Love of Raggedy Ann
This page is dedicated to my beloved Raggedy Ann. I have dearly loved both Ann and Andy, but especially Ann, since I was a little girl. I received my first Ann at age 2. She was a large doll, bigger than me. I had seen her dancing with a bear on the Captain Kangeroo show, and I pointed at her and called her Big Face. (I couldn't say Raggedy Ann.) I got my Big Face for Christmas that year. I slept with her until the day I left home as an adult. She is certainly raggedy today...almost in frazzles. She had many "surgeries" from "Dr. Mom" over the years and had her hair replaced once. But she is as dear to my heart as she was when I first got her. Oh, the tears that I've shed on her face throughout the years! Oh, the secrets we've shared! She has and still remains my dear, old friend.
My Raggedy Ann
We've played a lot together, Raggedy Ann,
as playmates often do
I always shared my dreams
With no one else but you.
Each night my prayers were whispered
As I snuggled with you by my side
On stormy nights, the thunder
Made us cover up and hide.
Now your eyes have both grown weary
And your arm is slightly torn,
Your cuddly body is tattered
And your nose is mashed and worn.
We did so much together, Raggedy Ann
The years, oh how they flew
And I cherish every memory
Of growing up with you.
